The Kings Contrivance sits on nearly 400 acres of historic farmland in Columbia, MD. The site, granted by Lord Baltimore to Reverend James MacGill, once held a stately Federal period masnion that was burnt to ruins then rebuilt in the late 19th century. The new mansion remained a MacGill family home until the 1960s, when it was converted to what is now one of Maryland's finest restaurants. In addition to the remarkable aesthetics of the area, The King's Contrivance's refined contemporary American fare, slightly influenced by Europe and Asia, and what has been called "one of the most outstanding wine lists in the world" has resulted in an impeccable reputation, making the restaurant a top-notch destination for high-end special events, weddings and private parties.
Located a short trip from The Gramercy at Town Center on Shaker Drive, The Kings Contrivance is a sight to behold even if not dining in or attending a special event.
